This is ping pong like you’ve never seen it before.
Thing/Pong ping pong pop-up tournament is heading to Vancouver on May 1 at the WISE Hall, with all proceeds benefitting BC Children’s Hospital. There are two different events that day: a family-friendly one (i.e. no booze) and a grown-up only, 19+ one (i.e. with booze).
In the kid-friendly version from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., parents are encouraged to bring their kids dressed in full 80s athletic gear, and snacks and virgin drinks will be served throughout. Kids under 13 may enter by-donation to BC Children’s Hospital, and if you have what it takes, you’re encouraged to enter the Thing/Pong tournament to play for prizes, trophies, and glory.
After 6 p.m., it’s all adults all the time, in the 19+ “Night Shift.” The bar will be open and DJ Donné will be spinning tunes later in the evening, when the floor will be cleared for some dancing. Once again, ping-pong masters are encouraged to enter a tournament for prizes, guts, and glory, and all participants should dress in 80s athletic gear.
For both events, tickets are available in limited quantities.
