Picnics are a lovely summer tradition. Yet, a lot of the time they are more hassle than they’re worth. Not anymore, thanks to Vancouver’s very own full service picnic company Picnix, which specializes in delicious, local, seasonal foods, beautifully presented and cleverly stored.
Offering a picnic lunch under the tree cover of Stanley Park and a dinner service close to English Bay, Picnix provides a unique and convenient way to eat outdoors while Vancouver’s weather is warm and the nights long.
Picnix’s clever handcrafted custom-built wagons, which you simply tow by hand over to your desired spot, unfold to create your very own pop-up table.
Complete with a red and white-checkered picnic blanket, cutlery, plates, cups, sun umbrella and outdoor games like bocce ball, the Picnix unit contains a carefully prepared spread and reusable dining ware, making for a fuss-free and mess-free al fresco dining experience.
Favouring local and sustainable food practices, the Picnix menu currently consists of: beet, taro root and sweet potato chips with spicy corn, roasted pepper and black bean salsa; a seasonal green salad with nuts, berries and balsamic reduction, and a Japanese noodle salad with sesame, carrot, edamame and a ginger orange dressing.
There’s also the choice of two out of the following three: a cheese plate, charcuterie and an antipasto platter. Also included is a bottle of homemade lemonade and a New York style baked cheesecake topped with a rich chocolate pudding and fresh fruit.
Not only is Picnix a convenient and easy way to enjoy an al fresco meal in the park (just grab your wagon and go), it is also a family-run affair. Proprietor Simon Roach designed and built the units himself. His mother, Louise Pearson, is a cheese maker at Poplar Grove Cheese in Naramata and makes all the cheeses featured, while his sister Elle manages the baking and desserts.
