Pianos on the Street has placed its final piano of the summer at the Richmond Olympic Oval and on Monday, August 25th from 2:00 pm-3:30 pm, several talented children from Canuck Place Children’s Hospice will decorate the open-air, public piano that is located on the plaza adjacent the Oval.

Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is a non-profit organization that provides specialized paediatric palliative care for kids living with life-threatening illnesses and support for their families.  Sean Pacey (president of Pacey’s Pianos and founder of the Piano Teachers Federation) is working in conjunction with the hospice and the City of Richmond to make this day possible. Public Arts Planner for the City of Richmond, Eric Fiss:

“The City is grateful for the opportunity provided through the Pianos on the Street project to work with community organizations, such as Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, to promote and increase cultural activities and programs in public civic spaces and to increase public awareness, enhance quality of place and to engage citizens across generation.”

“Music brings brightness to a moment in time,” said Margaret McNeil, CEO of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice (CPCH) “As BC’s pediatric palliative care provider, CPCH makes a difference in the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them. Children, families, staff and volunteers were thrilled to team up to paint a Piano on the Street and celebrated the opportunity. Canuck Place is proud to share A Moment in Time painted piano with the community.”

Pianos on the Street is collaborative project that involves the community as a whole.  The involvement of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is a wonderful opportunity to join forces with, and highlight, another section of the community.
