The BMO Vancouver Marathon, Half Marathon and 8 km Race took place in Vancouver Sunday morning with thousands of runners taking over the city streets.
More than 14,000 participants joined the race to run 42.6 km, 21.3 km or 8 km from Queen Elizabeth Park, around the UBC Endowment Lands, into Downtown, around Stanley Park and finishing on West Pender Street.
The top men’s finishers were Kenya’s Luka Chelimo in first place with a time of two hours 18 minutes and 37 seconds, Kenya’s Daniel Kipkoech in second place just 12 seconds behind and Canada’s Kip Kangogo in third place with a time of two hours 19 minutes and 31 seconds.
The fastest women were Lioudmila Kortchaguina from Ontario in first place with a time of two hours 37 minutes and 37 seconds, Ethiopia’s Hirut Guangul in second place with a time of two hours 41 minutes and 25 seconds and Vancouver’s Ellie Greenwood in third place with a time of two hours 47 minutes and 23 seconds.
Vancouver’s Rob Watson won the half-marathon in one hour four minutes and 48 seconds.
