Don’t leave your pets in hot cars, okay? That’s the message local YouTube personalities Life of Bri and Peter Chao are trying to send in a new video public service announcement titled “Pet Protection Goon Squad.”
The two YouTube teams have partnered up to create a 90-second-long video that depicts a fictional group of tough, vigilante dog lovers who are sick of seeing bad dog owners putting their dogs at risk of heat stroke or death by leaving the animals in a hot car.
“It’s been an extremely hot summer and unsurprisingly we’ve seen a few cases of irresponsible pet owners leaving poor dogs in hot cars,” Life of Bri producer Jeremy Lee told Vancity Buzz.
Even leaving an animal inside a hot car for just a few minutes could have lethal consequences. But the ‘goon squad’ believes they’re up to the task of smashing windows with blunt objects to free distressed pets: in the video, a sledge hammer is used to smash a car window to ‘free’ one of the several pets featured.
Of course, in reality, the comedic video does not advocate for people to take matters into their own hands, although if it comes to a dire situation “a smashed window is nothing compared to an animal’s life.” The disclaimer at the end of the video further explains the team’s intentions.
If anyone sees an animal in distress inside a hot vehicle, they are asked to contact their local police department by calling 9-1-1.
