Pemberton Music Festival is still on, for the time being

A huge fire (roughly the size of the City of Vancouver) 25 km northwest of Pemberton has led many to speculate the fate of the upcoming Pemberton Music Festival 2015, which is slated to take place in the grounds of Mt. Currie from July 16 to 19.

Despite the rumours and speculation, festival organizers have said the show will go on (for the time being). Vancity Buzz received the following statement:

There are absolutely no plans to cancel the festival at this time. We are receiving regular updates from authorities, who inform us that the the fires are currently far enough away from the festival site that their impact on the event will be minimal, if any. However, public safety is our number one concern, and we are monitoring the situation closely for any developments that might effect the festival, our neighbours, or our fans.

That being said, festival organizers will be keeping an eye on the situation.

The big concern for the public right now is the smokey condition, which has currently rendered aircrafts unable to fly in and out of the town. Based on past experiences, there is the potential for inversions to happen where the smoke gets trapped in the valley, according to a BC Wildfire Service officer. The fire itself is currently over 60 km away from the town of Pemberton.
