Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle on Southeast Marine Drive

A pedestrian in Vancouver was fatally struck by a car on Wednesday evening.

According to a statement released by Vancouver Police, a 51-year-old man was crossing Southeast Marine Drive near Main Street when he was hit by a vehicle traveling on the westbound lanes.

The injured man was taken to hospital. Unfortunately, he late succumbed to the extent of his injuries.

“The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation,” reads the police statement. “Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash at this time.”

The VPD’s Traffic Collision Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

There have been nine traffic fatalities in Vancouver in 2015 to date. Seven of these deaths have been pedestrians.
