The area around Boundary Road and Vanness Street in East Vancouver has been shut down following an early morning collision involving a pedestrian.

The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. when a 47-year-old man crossing Boundary Road, near the B.C. Parkway and SkyTrain elevated tracks, was hit by a vehicle. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The Vancouver Police Department’s Collision Investigation Unit is at the scene investigating the cause of the incident. The investigation is in its early stages.

“The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation,” said police in a statement. “The cause of the collision has yet to be determined.”

This is Vancouver’s seventh pedestrian fatality of 2015. On July 4, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a garbage truck at the intersection of Kingsway and Broadway.
