A 54-year-old woman has died after being hit by the driver of an SUV while she was crossing the road in Richmond.

According to a release from Richmond RCMP, the crash took place on Sunday, November 12, just before 6:30 pm in the 11,000 block of Bridgeport Road.

Police say the woman did not appear to have been crossing in a designated area when she was struck by a 59-year-old Surrey man in a grey 2013 Acura SUV.

The driver stayed at the scene and tried to help the woman, police say, but the woman later died of her injuries in hospital.

Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit, the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, and the BC Coroner’s Service continue to investigate.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
