Aug 28 2020, 1:45 pm

After spending quite some time self-isolating at home and making enough bread to fulfill our lifetime baking goals, Vancouver’s spacious patios are calling.

From August 21 through September 21, 2020, locals can celebrate the summer by dining al fresco at the city’s first-ever summertime¬†Dine OutSide¬†culinary event.

Created by Tourism Vancouver¬†and supported by community partners like Lyft, the¬†food and drink celebration¬†features over 160 participating local restaurants — many with expanded patio dining — offering either prix fixe menus, special promotional offers, or takeout and picnic packs.

There has never been a better time to support local culinary talent and the economy simultaneously. Whether you enhance your dining experience with a downtown Vancouver hotel getaway or simply dine in the sun before heading home, the brag-worthy patio menus to choose from are plentiful.

Tucked away in Coal Harbour, Mahony & Sons is a hidden gem with gorgeous views of the cityscape from its expansive patio. During Dine OutSide, the restaurant is offering lunch and dinner deals with a complimentary glass of beer or wine. Relish ravioli bites as an appetizer, a classic burger and fries main dish, and sweet gelato for dessert.

If French-style cuisine with a view sounds like your jam, look to Provence Marinaside in Yaletown. Sit on the patio and watch the world go by on the Seawall as you indulge in the restaurant’s seasonal eats. Everyone who orders the chef’s feature menu starring heirloom tomatoes and lobster can enjoy a glass of refreshing¬†ros√© on the house.

Marvel at unobstructed scenes of Stanley Park, North Vancouver, and the Burrard Inlet on the massive patio at Tap & Barrel’s downtown location. As part of its Dine OutSide offer, the eatery is dishing up a complimentary order of its famous fried pickles or handmade guac and salsa when you order two mains, which include everything from pizzas to salads, bowls, burgers, and sandwiches.

Located in the Vancouver Art Gallery,¬†1931 Gallery Bistro¬†is another downtown spot that oozes glamour and minimalism. From a table on the patio lined with lush tropical plants, gaze at the bustle of Robson Square below. The restaurant’s Dine OutSide dinner menu includes a fig and goat cheese starter, red curry halibut, plus peach gateau for dessert.

A visit to Belgium might be off the cards this summer, but you can still get a taste of authentic Belgian cuisine here in Vancouver at Chambar. The comfortable patio is ideal for catching up with your bubble over the new lunch or dinner menus. Our three-course suggestions for lunch are the veal-stuffed calamari, miso and parsnip risotto, and milk chocolate lavender dessert.

Granville Island’s Dockside Restaurant checks the boxes for seriously delicious food made using seasonal ingredients and picturesque patio views stretching out across the False Creek waterfront. Although the dish pictured above is off the menu, the dining establishment is currently offering a Picnic 2 Go menu with Mediterranean, Hillside, and Seafood Picnic options — each containing different libations.

In Gastown,¬†L’Abattoir¬†is a spectacular choice for French-influenced West Coast fare. The restaurant’s new patio area lets you see the action happening in the city’s oldest neighbourhood. For a date night treat, order the feature menu for two and select four patio food items listed on the blackboard on site. Finish the meal on a delectable note with homemade ice cream bars.

Getting to the restaurants you want to visit safely is important, especially given the current circumstances. As the Official Rideshare Partner of Dine OutSide, Lyft is offering 25% off two rides to and from participating restaurants. Simply use the coupon code DINEOUTSIDE for two rides (up to $5 each) from August 21 to September 21.

Lyft has implemented a Health Safety Program to protect drivers and riders. This requires both parties to self-certify they will wear face coverings throughout the ride and that they are symptom-free, among other requirements. Above all else, staying home if you feel sick is the best way to help protect yourself and others from the spread of COVID-19.
