The third annual Papergirl Vancouver art project is back.

“[The Papergirl Vancouver project] is an … art project that brings people together in celebration of art and community in an unconventional way: through the spirit of altruism.”

All artists are invited to donate any form of artwork – be it prints, paintings, poems, drawings or photos. For submission information, visit: www.papergirlvancouver.com. All artwork received will be rolled up and then distributed by a team of cyclists (in the style of the American paperboy) to anyone they meet along secret bike routes.

Last year’s Papergirl Vancouver project received donations from 130 artists across the Lower Mainland and across the world. The Papergirl Vancouver project received more than 700 art pieces that were then distributed to the public.

Papergirl Vancouver will be accepting applications until Monday, August 5, 2013. The orientation and art party will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2013. The ride out will commence on Saturday, August 24, 2013.

The exhibition will open at the Roundhouse Community Centre on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

The Papergirl Vancouver project’s purpose

“[The Papergirl Vancouver project] views this simple act as a significant performance, where the individual artworks become part of a larger community-engaged project. The gifting of art takes [Papergirl Vancouver] participants and strangers outside of their everyday experience of the traditional market economy that identifies art consumers by socio-economic class and education. When an artist gives their work as a gift, they build a relationship with the recipient and with others affected by their creativity and this act of kindness. [Papergirl Vancouver] brings art back to its identity as a true creativity: a ‘pure gift’ that builds community through sharing.”
