UPDATE: The Oregon Attorney General has confirmed 13 people have died following today’s mass shooting at Umpqua Community College. The gunman, reportedly a 20-year-old male, was also killed but details remain scarce.
Another mass shooting in the United States has sent dozens to hospital and killed 13 people.
According to Oregon Police, over a dozen people are dead following a mass shooting at a community college in Douglas County, Oregon. The State Police originally told media on the scene that 15 people had been killed and another 20 injured following the attack. According to The Oregonian newspaper, police have apprehended the suspect.
Conflicting reports suggest the number of dead could be as low as seven or up to 15. It has now been confirmed by law enforcement to be a total of 13.
Details on the incident have not been immediately available, but reports suggest it happened just after 10:30 a.m. PST Thursday morning in the community of Roseburg.
This may be one of the deadliest shootings in U.S. history, and possibly have more casualties than the tragic 1999 Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, Colorado that killed 13 people plus the two shooters.
The U.S. has long been familiar with shooting rampages and just this past summer nine were killed in Charleston, North Carolina when a man opened fire at a historic black church. According to the Washington Post, there have been over 247 mass shootings in the U.S. so far this year, averaging more than one mass shooting per day.
