Well it looks as though the nimbyfication of city hall has started early as the City decided against allowing a rooftop restaurant at the illustrious Opus Hotel.
Thank you Nimby’s for your selfish ways, this is one of the times you were dead wrong. Instead of working with the hotel to come up with a viable solution to the a legitimate privacy issue for the people on the 8th floor of the adjacent condo, the city just voted it down. The only support came from a few NPA councillors, while the rest succumbed to Nimby pressure. Vision is off to a great start.
This begs the question, what is wrong with a high end restaurant atop a hotel roof? The hotel was willing to put up a barrier in order to deal with the privacy issue. Also, if you want privacy move to the burbs and not downtown. Egregious asshattery at its finest.
