The maker of Kinder Surprise, Nutella, and Ferrero Rocher products closed down its Brantford, Ontario, plant after seven employees tested positive for the virus.

Ferrero Canada Ltd. said the plant closed on Tuesday afternoon after discovering several of its staff had contracted the virus.

“The employees worked in the same areas and had not been in the plant for almost two weeks before getting their results,” the company statement said.

Ferrero Canada Ltd said the company will complete a full assessment and undertake a deep cleaning throughout the entire plant, including common areas and all offices.

Operations will resume when “it is appropriate to do so” and all impacted employees will still be paid.

“The health and safety of our employees has and always will be our priority,” the company said.

As of April 29, there are 15,728 total coronavirus cases in the province, with over half resolved at 9,612 and 996 reported deaths.
