There is now a new peak in downtown Vancouver that reaches a height of 550 ft with 54 storeys.
One Burrard Place at 1289 Hornby Street, near the northern end of the Burrard Street Bridge, topped out in its construction process earlier this week, reaching its ultimate height. The tower provides a visual gateway into downtown for northward perspectives from the bridge.

This tall tower alone contains approximately 400 condominium and market rental homes, plus roughly 30,000 sq. ft. of amenity spaces and a minor grocery store.
The tower has gentle curves in its architectural design, and a window system facade inspired by the forms of a honeycomb.
One Burrard Place is currently the third tallest tower in downtown, just behind Living Shangri-La and Trump International Hotel and Tower Vancouver, but its ranking will be bumped down in about two years when Westbank’s The Butterfly tower tops out. Several towers proposed or more recently approved are also taller than this project.
Local developer Reliance Properties is behind the project, in partnership with the Jim Pattison Group.
The overall Burrard Place redevelopment, occupying much of the city block, previously the Downtown Toyota dealership, also includes a 13-storey, 184-ft-tall office tower with approximately 150,000 sq. ft. of AAA office space at 1280 Burrard Street.
While the main residential tower was designed by IBI Group, the office tower was separately designed by Revery Architecture, previously known as Bing Thom Architects.
The office tower carries a sculptural “jewel box” form that conceals a three-storey space for the new Toyota dealership at the building’s lower floors, facing the corner of the intersection with Burrard Street and Drake Street. Other uses on the lower level entail a mid-block office lobby, and a restaurant unit at the northernmost end of the building.
Last fall, a rezoning application was submitted to allow for the possibility of educational institutional uses for the office levels, such as a private college. The landlord has received interest from educational institutions in business, technology, and management. City council has yet to consider this proposal for the expanded permitted uses.
Burrard Place also has a third tower at the mid-block site at 1261 Hornby Street, immediately north of One Burrard Place. This tower will be a 368-ft-tall, 35-storey tower with 207 condominiums, 27 market rental homes, 40,000 sq. ft. of office space, and 5,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
The overall total floor area of all three towers combined is one million sq. ft. and over 800 homes.
Both the main residential and office towers will reach completion later this year, while the third tower will finish towards the middle of the decade.
City council’s original rezoning approval for the project secured $23 million in community amenity contributions from the developer, including in-kind value from the on-site market rental housing, and funding for the establishment of a new and expanded Qmunity LGBTQ community and social service centre nearby.
Reliance Properties is also looking to redevelop the city block’s 7-Eleven store property — 902 Davie Street, the southwest corner of the intersection of Davie Street and Hornby Street — into a 300-ft-tall, 25-storey tower with 158 market rental homes, 28,000 sq. ft. of office space, and 4,400 sq. ft. of retail.
