Men’s team – Crispin Duenas and John David Burnes of Toronto and Jay Lyon, Winnipeg, lost to Italy in the round of 16, 219-217.
EQUESTRIAN
Eventing (ranking after Cross Country) – Kyle Carter of Calgary, placed 31st with a time of 81.90 seconds; Sandra Donnelly, Calgary, was 33rd (84.20); Selena O’Hanlon, Elgin, Ont., was 51st (120.90); Mike Winter, Toronto, was 53rd (125.70), and Samantha Taylor, Richmond, B.C., was 60th (180.30). In the team competition, Canada stands ninth with a score of 287.00.
FENCING
Women’s Individual Foil – Jujie Luan, Edmonton, lost to Aida Mohamed, Hungary, 15-7 in the round of 32 after defeating Ines Boubakri, Tunisia, 13-9 in the round of 64.
SWIMMING
Men’s 4×100 freestyle – Canada (Brent Hayden, Mission, B.C.; Joel Greenshields, Airdrie, Alta.; Colin Russell, Barrie, Ont.; and Rick Say, Salmon Arm, B.C.), placed sixth in the final with a time of three minutes 12.26 seconds.
Men’s 200 freestyle – Colin Russell of Barrie, Ont., failed to qualify for the final after placing seventh in his semifinal heat with a time of 1:48.13.
Women’s 100 backstroke – Julia Wilkinson of Stratford, Ont., placed sixth in her semifinal heat with a time of 1:00.60, failing to qualify for the final.
Women’s 100 breaststroke – Jillian Tyler, Calgary, and Annamay Pierse, Edmonton, both placed sixth in their respective semifinal heats with times of 1:09.00 and 1:08.27, respectively. Neither advanced to the final
