Oh Canada, you sure do have strong opinions about doughnuts.

What should have been a short and sweet visit to a Canadian doughnut shop by the Prime Minister has turned into a bit of a sticky situation.

Winnipeg’s Oh Doughnuts was delighted to see Justin Trudeau swing by over the weekend, picking up several boxes of goodies as fuel for Cabinet meetings.

Trudeau even went so far as to post an image of himself carrying the goods, captioning the photo with a message calling the shop one of “Winnipeg’s best” along with the hashtag, #shoplocal.

After this drop-in, it seems the locally owned-and-operated shop was getting called out online, some folks were saying Trudeau should have grabbed doughnuts at Tim Hortons.

Oh Doughnuts clapped back to the haters in a four-part response on Twitter.

The doughnut maker has been receiving a ton of support since, and Oh Doughnuts is clearly standing its ground during what they’ve coined #doughnutgate.
