Off-duty VPD officer arrested for allegations of assaults, unlawful confinement

The Vancouver Police Department announced today that one of its officers has been arrested for allegations of assault and unlawful confinement in Maple Ridge.

According to a release by police, a woman reported to the Ridge Meadows RCMP that she had been the victim of a domestic-related assault. The man responsible for the alleged assault was reported to be an off-duty VPD officer.

On Friday evening, RCMP officers went to the Vancouver officer’s home and arrested him for the allegations.

RCMP also advised the VPD of the allegations, and the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner was also subsequently notified by the VPD.

Police say the officer has been with the VPD for 10 years. Pending the results of the investigation, he has been removed from frontline duties.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is undertaking the investigation to the incident.
