Just launched last week was the Queens SS12 Accessories collection and I am in love with every bit of it. From the Scarlet Diamond earrings to the Chicago Bulls necklace the collection, it screams originality.
If you don’t already know, Queens is a women’s boutique tucked away on 12 E. Cordova Street. Entering the store it feels like the perfect clubhouse for girls. You can get your nails painted, try on some cute gear and accessorize your outfit with the most unique jewelry the city has to offer, all while chatting with your girls. The walls are covered with pictures of iconic figures in the hip hop industry and music to set the soundtrack for your visit make you feel as though you stepped out of Vancouver and took a train to New York. There is absolutely nothing like it in this city. Owner, Rose Raflores, has done a great job of offering the female Urban community in Vancouver a place to genuinely connect to.
The latest pieces introduced to Queens is their new Spring/Summer ’12 Accessories collection. The bright colours, leopard prints and MLB/NBA inspired earrings all take me back to the 90’s and I’m not complaining. Reminds me of the days when I would roll up to elementary school wearing my oversized Chicago Bulls jacket and pulling out my black and white Jason Kidd Air Zooms during recess, thinking I was the coolest kid around. I loved feeling the ability to express my little tomboy self to the fullest and as I grew older I lost that inhibition to venture the less traveled path with my fashion style. My favorite piece of the collection has to be the Scarlet Diamond earrings. The eccentric colors might scare you a little a first, but these stunning earrings are the perfect way to update your wardrobe for spring. Having said that, I cannot deny the Bulls earrings the glory they deserve. For all you kids who grew up during the Jordan era you understand what I’m talking about. It definitely takes a Queen to pull those earrings off.
