Oakridge-41st Avenue Station faces more early closures as construction work on expansion continues into 2027

Another prolonged period of early closures is planned for Oakridge-41st Avenue Station on SkyTrain’s Canada Line to accommodate ongoing construction.

As part of the major project to improve the station’s accessibility and circulation capacity, it will close early at 11 p.m. from Aug. 24 through Sept. 22, 2026, on Sunday through Thursday nights. There will be no early closures on Fridays, Saturdays, or Labour Day.

The closures will allow crews to safely and efficiently complete work on the new street-level entrance structure. This includes pouring and curing concrete slabs near the station stairs, adding glass panels, and installing a roll-up security barrier.

As with previous early closures related to the project, Canada Line trains will pass through Oakridge-41st Avenue Station without stopping.

The expansion is intended to accommodate not only the long-term ridership growth anticipated from the eventual full buildout of Oakridge Park — including its major shopping mall, office and residential uses, rooftop destination park, and community centre, with active programming of events and festivals — but also the extensive densification expected across the surrounding area as part of the designated Oakridge Municipal Town Centre area.

The project includes a rebuilt and expanded street-level entrance with a new roof offering greater weather protection. Two additional escalators will also be installed, bringing the total to three and introducing the station’s first down escalator from street level.

Another major component is the station’s second entrance, consisting of an underground corridor lined with retailers and food and beverage businesses between the mall’s north atrium and the station’s existing ticketing concourse.

As previously reported by Daily Hive Urbanized, a substantial section of the corridor has already opened, along with its first businesses, including Purdys Chocolatier. The section that has yet to open and will complete the connection to the station is expected to include Scotiabank, Teriyaki Experience, Umi Sushi Express, A&W, Cha House Bubble Tea, and Trees Cheesecake & Organic Coffee.

The eastbound R4 41st Avenue RapidBus stop next to the station entrance will also be upgraded with a new information display, benches, and a shelter.

The station project is being funded largely by QuadReal Property Group, the owner and developer of Oakridge Park. TransLink has also contributed funding toward the cost of the two additional street-level escalators.

In a bulletin issued today about the upcoming early closures, TransLink also revealed that the upgrade project is not expected to be fully completed until early 2027. When construction began in September 2024, the work was anticipated to take about one year. By the time the project is finished, construction will have spanned nearly two and a half years.

The first phase of the new Oakridge Park shopping centre opened in late May 2026, with more businesses launching in the months since. One of its anchor retailers, Safeway, is scheduled to return on Aug. 27, 2026, with the flagship grocery store spanning more than 50,000 sq. ft. across two underground levels in the south atrium.

In September 2026, at the beginning of the new academic year, Fairleigh Dickinson University will open its 70,000 sq. ft. campus at Oakridge Park.

Additional retailers — including businesses that will occupy space previously reserved for the return of Hudson’s Bay — and the residential units included in the redevelopment’s first phase are expected to be fully ready in 2027. This phase also includes 700,000 sq. ft. of office space within the podium levels of the residential towers.

The City of Vancouver’s new 100,000 sq. ft. Oakridge civic centre is also expected to open sometime in 2027. Attached to a new City-owned social housing tower at the northwest corner of the Oakridge Park property, the facility will contain new community, recreational and cultural spaces, including a Vancouver Public Library branch.

A significant portion of Oakridge Park’s 7.5-acre public rooftop park has already opened.
