Early nightly closures at Oakridge-41st Avenue SkyTrain station for construction extended by two months

Another prolonged period of nightly early closures to Oakridge-41st Avenue Station on SkyTrain’s Canada Line to accommodate major construction work is scheduled to begin in late January 2026.
The previously announced month-long early closure that began on Dec. 14, 2025, will end tonight, Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, but another round of nightly early closures will begin on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 — after a brief reprieve — and last for about two months through late March 2026.
The additional early closure is necessary to safely and efficiently support construction for the station’s major expansion. This work includes the installation of two new additional escalators from street level, a new relocated elevator, and the construction of a new secondary station entrance — providing a direct underground connection from the new Oakridge Park indoor mall to an expanded ticketing concourse area.

The street-level entrance will also have an expanded roof for more weather protection, and the R4 41st Avenue RapidBus eastbound bus stop will be upgraded with weather protection, an information display, and benches.

Starting on Jan. 26, the next phase of early closures will begin at 11 p.m. on Sunday to Thursday nights only. No early closures are planned for Fridays, Saturdays, or Family Day (Feb. 16).
Over this two-month period, crews will specifically work on continued activities to demolish the original 2009-built, street-level station entrance structure and install large glass roof panels onto the newly built, honeycomb-like timber roof structure.
Additionally, the station’s existing elevator will be closed for three months from Jan. 26 to April 30.

The station expansion project is expected to reach completion in Summer 2026, but this is subject to weather conditions that can impact the pace of construction work.
Construction began in September 2024 and was originally expected to take about one year to complete.
Mall developer QuadReal Property Group is funding a large part of the upgrades to prepare the station for higher-than-anticipated passenger volumes generated by Oakridge Park’s high concentration of retail and dining, high-density residential and office space, and major civic facilities, including a 7.5-acre rooftop park and 100,000 sq. ft. recreational centre with Vancouver Public Library’s second largest branch.

The station expansion will also serve the demand expected from future high-density developments in the broader Oakridge Municipal Town Centre area, well outside of the mall property.
The intention is to complete the station upgrades as close as possible to the mall’s opening date, which is expected for Spring 2026.
The first and largest phase of the overall Oakridge Park mall project is now in the final stages of completion, with other components like the community centre and the bulk of the new housing expected to reach completion later in 2026.
