Ah, summer. The best time of year to dine al fresco, enjoy a walk in the sun at lunch, and put in some serious patio time after work. And sometimes the last thing you want to do is carry a bunch of stuff with you when you’re out and about enjoying the sun. Sometimes even a wallet cramps our style. What if you could not only pay with your phone, but get $25 worth of food and beer for only $10? Keep reading, because you can.
One of the companies paving the way in the Canadian mobile-payment space is nTrust, a financial startup whose product is a phone- and web-based app that lets you send and receive money from friends for free. Another feature of nTrust is that they work with local merchants so you can pay for products and services directly from your phone.
To showcase some of their favourite Vancouver spots, the team at nTrust decided to put a modern spin on mobile deals. Forget about having to print out a gift certificate and carry it around with you—all of the action happens right on your phone’s screen (as long as it’s a smartphone that can access the web).
Here’s how it works. Between August 6 and August 19, you can buy an electronic deal with a value of $25, from any of these merchants, for $10. Basically, you’re getting $15 worth of food and/or beer for free. Kind of a no-brainer, right?
- Arturo’s Mexico to Go
- Black Kettle Brewing Company
- Culver City Salads
- Mom’s Grilled Cheese
- Strange Fellows Brewing
- Storm Brewing
Once you’ve set up a profile through nTrust (which takes less than five minutes), you can purchase any (or all) of the offers. The deals can be purchased between August 6 and August 19, and must be redeemed by August 26. At these prices, even if you don’t manage to drink $25 worth of beer in 3 weeks, you can afford to pour one out for the homies.
