
Nowruz (pronounced no-rooz) is the Persian New Year that millions around the world celebrate. It marks the first day of spring and is the start of a new year in the Iranian calendar, which is on March 21. Many will be celebrating this festive occasion and holy day here in Vancouver. Here are some of the celebrations happening around the city.
Celebrate Nowruz at CBC Vancouver: Sangha in Concert
When: Friday, March 15
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: CBC Studio One, 700 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
Free tickets are available although seating is limited.
The 23rd Annual Fire Festival (Chaharshanbe Suri)
When: Tuesday, March 19
Time: 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Ambleside Park, West Vancouver
Celebrate the New Year with live music, fire jumping, Persian food and dance performances.
There is a $5 admission fee. Children 10 and under are free.
When: Friday, March 22
Time: 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Where: Shangri-La Hotel, 1128 West Georgia Street, Vancouver
Tickets are available at $55 with VIP tickets at $65. This is a formal 19+ event only, two pieces of ID required.
When: Friday, March 22
Where: Barcelona Nightclub, 1180 Granville Street, Vancouver
DJ Siavvish, DJ UB, DJ Motion spinning Persian pop, dance and classic jams with live percussion drums, belly dancing and more.
Tickets available at Club Zone for $30. Barcelona is a 19+ club, two pieces of ID required.
