Now, Now Vancouver 2013 Show

It’s hard not to be instantly captivated by Minneapolis based indie-pop trio Now, Now. The group’s unique fusion of vulnerably honest lyrics laced with emotionally charged melodies is both refreshing and inviting. Touring in support of their 2012 release, Threads, the group is set to co-headline Electric Owl Social Club with label mates The Lonely Forest this Friday, May 3.

The line-up includes, Cacie Dalager on vocals, guitar and keyboard; Bradley Hale on drums and backing vocals; and Jess Abbott on guitar and vocals.  Dalager and Hale began writing together in high school in early 2003, however, it wasn’t until the 2009 addition of Abbott that the current Now, Now came to be.

Produced in Vancouver by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers, An Horse), Threads is the second full-length release from Now, Now.  Released on Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla’s label, Trans Records, the album is a departure to a soundscape mature beyond their years.

The trio are at their best on songs such as But I Do  in which an increasing collection of emotions climaxes into Dalager singing heavy heartedly ”I am what you need when you can’t find it somewhere else / I am what you want when you don’t want anything else” amongst a layered sound. Thread finds the lyrics of the opening track repeated, further painting a portrait of an ongoing theme of a failing relationship. Ultimately, the album perfectly conveys the trials and tribulations of young love and self-growth all the while maintaining a respectable sophistication to it.

Despite releasing their album ‘Threads in March of 2012, this is Now, Now’s first headlining stop in Vancouver since and it surely will be one not to miss.
