North Vancouver teacher arrested for alleged sexual exploitation of student

RCMP have arrested a male North Vancouver high school teacher for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student.

According to police, 39-year-old Chad Jeremy Smith was arrested on Thursday and is charged with one count of sexual exploitation. It is alleged that the sexual assault occurred from October 2012 to December 2014.

The charge of exploitation usually applies to authority figures who sexually assault a minor.

Since his arrest yesterday, Smith has been released from custody, but with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 9.

Few details have been released given the nature of the incident and the victim involved.
