North Vancouver mall hosts month-long series of holiday activities

Capturing the feeling of Christmas spirit seems more important than ever this year.

This year, Capilano Mall is bringing festive excitement directly into our homes for an entire month. Happening now until Christmas Eve, experience Live from the North Pole — a virtual event where little ones can celebrate the holidays by participating in fun and interactive activities, all from the comfort of their own home.

Santa Claus plays an iconic part of every Christmas, waiting patiently at the North Pole to hear the wishes of every child. This December, there is a printable letter template available on the Capilano Mall website so every child gets the chance to let the big man in red know what they want for Christmas. The mall is also hosting virtual visits with Santa this year, and while all Zoom visits are currently booked, you can keep your eyes peeled for cancellations on the event website.

Everyone will get to say hello to his better half, Mrs. Claus. Broadcasting live on Capilano Mall’s Instagram account, Mrs. Claus will be reading an assortment of holiday storybooks on Sunday, December 13 at 10 am. Who knew she was such a social media influencer?

Also broadcasting from the Capilano Mall Instagram account will be a festive celebration to make everyone feel a part of something larger. Tune in on Saturday, December 19 at 11 am to the Jingle Bell Rock Concert, a live stream performance by Rodney Thornton and his family band that will include all the classic holiday songs. Get into the holiday spirit while you wrap presents, decorate the tree, or sip eggnog.

The Nutcracker is a holiday favourite of many, and one of the best celebrations of Christmas every year. As part of Capilano Mall’s virtual event and in partnership with the Goh Ballet, you can register for the exclusive, limited release of the film The Nutcracker Beyond the Stage: Fallen Prince. It will be available from just December 18 to January 2, so you don’t want to miss this rare opportunity.

The Nutcracker Beyond the Stage: Fallen Prince is a twist on the original story we know and love. It’s a completely new tale that follows a young dancer’s passage, showing his hopes, dreams, and resilience in his pursuit of what he truly loves: dance. Audiences will be transported from the comfort of their home into this timeless story.

Families can also tune in to (and dance along with) a performance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker through a special video excerpt, available to everyone on Capilano Mall’s website.

And for those inspired by the dancing and singing, there will be interactive craft making tutorials presented on the Capilano Mall IGTV account, in association with The Giraffes Art School. This is a unique and fun way for the little ones to get into some do-it-yourself holiday activities.

No matter what Christmas masterpiece you end up creating, it can be a reminder of the year that gave us a great Christmas despite strange circumstances.

Make sure to follow Capilano Mall’s Instagram and Facebook pages so as not to miss out on any of the magical virtual activities and updates from the North Pole.
