Students and staff at Handsworth Secondary School in North Vancouver were released early Tuesday after the discovery of a “small explosive device.”
“It came to the attention of school administration that a student brought a small explosive device to school,” North Vancouver School District said in a statement. “No threats were made and the device was quickly seized.”
In what they described as “an abundance of caution,” the school board confirmed that North Vancouver RCMP evacuated the school to perform a thorough search to confirm that no other explosive devices were present.
Students were released from school at 12:30 pm, and school is expected to operate as usual on Wednesday.
