A hiker who got lost hiking near The Lions on Sunday, spent “most of the night” outdoors while rescuers from Lions Bay Search and Rescue (LBSAR) searched for him.

And in a Monday morning Facebook message, they announced he had been found.

“Our members were out again last night searching for a lost hiker in the Harvey Creek area,” said LBSAR. “They were able to make visual and verbal contact with him but due to his location they were unable to get to him safely in the middle of the night.”

At first light Monday morning, with the help of North Shore Rescue and Talon Helicopters, rescuers were able to get the hiker out of the are and to safety.

According to North Shore Rescue, (NSR) the hiker was found “in a very steep technical area beside a waterfall.”

Rescuers determined that the best way to reach hime was via long line and at that point, NSR’s long-line team was called in.

NSR noted the hiker “did have some survival equipment” with him, including including fire starter and a tarp “which is always great to see.”

Both NSR and LBSAR thanked everyone involved with the rescue for their help.

A video of the rescue was taken by Jarret Lunn and posted to Youtube.
