It's official, Nordstrom to open Vancouver Store

We were first in the city to let you know that Nordstrom was coming to Vancouver. In fact we’ve been saying this since 2010. My source at Cadillac Fairview is seldom wrong and now it’s officially out there. Seattle’s Nordstrom is in the final stages of finalizing plans to open four Canadian locations. Three of these will be former flagship Sears locations. Downtown Vancouver’s Sears will be converted to a Nordstrom after renovations are concluded to arguably one of the ugliest buildings in the city.

Chinook Centre in Calgary, Ottawa’s Rideau Centre and Sherway Gardens mall in Toronto will also see the Nordstrom invasion of Canada.

Shoppers in the city are no doubt excited by the news. The Bay and to a lessor extent Harry Rosen and Holt Renfrew not so much. Let’s just hope the prices are somewhat similar to our American counterparts.

Although the deal is 99.9% done anything can happen. However, I don’t see a situation where Nordstrom won’t be taking over the Sears site. Cadillac Fairview would not offer up a large chunk of cash if it didn’t have another suitable tenant already in mind.

Nordstrom isn’t the only retailer making its Vancouver debut. Victoria’s Secret will be opening up at the old HMV location on Robson and Burrard, Forever 21 will be opening a large store on Robson and Camper is taking over the old Guess location on Robson and Thurlow. Lets not forget about TOPSHOP and TOPMAN at The newly renovated The Bay downtown.
