NordStrom to open Vancouver Store

Dec 19 2017, 12:26 pm

Word is that Nordstrom is looking to expand into the Vancouver market,  if this is true, this would be their first Canadian location. The pacific northwest upscale department store (headquartered in Seattle) that many swear by is supposedly shopping around for space in and around the Vancouver area.  Again, I reitereate if this is true, this is exciting news for local shoppers as Vancouver’s retail scene continues to improve.

Furthermore, just this week BIV hinted that announcement could be made soon. To add further fuel to the fire, word on the street is that HMV’s days on Robson & Burrard are numbered. Seriously, when is the last time you bought a CD? At 3 levels and 40,000 sq ft, that would be to small for Nordstrom as they would need at least double that space.  However, another rumoured location is the corner of Alberni and Thurlow, the site of the new Bentall 6 office tower.

Nordstrom is definitely interested in entering the Canadian market. The usual suspects of Toronto, Montreal & Vancouver are the key cities that have been identified as candidates. Sorry Regina, maybe next time.

Will they be opening up a department store in a mall nearby (Oakridge, Metrotown, Richmond Centre) or Nordstrom Rack in downtown Vancouver? I’ll keep you posted if I hear anything else.
