Were you looking forward to a White Christmas Day this year? Unfortunately, it is not something Santa Claus can deliver in Metro Vancouver according to Environment Canada.
The latest forecasts indicate it will be a relatively warm and green Christmas Day with a mix of cloud and sun. If you are looking for a nearby destination with snow on the ground, Whistler will be your best bet.
The last time Vancouver had a snow on the ground on Christmas was in 2008, which was the snowiest winter in 19 years. With an extensive period of subzero arctic temperatures accompanied by continued snowfall, there was snow on the ground for 27 consecutive days from December 13 to January 8.
In fact, the December 2008 accumulations were less than one centimetre short of beating the all-time record of 89.9 cm in December 1964.
