Two preseason games in, and the Vancouver Canucks have their first troubling injury news.

Nils Höglander exited the Canucks preseason game in Abbotsford on Wednesday night, with what head coach Adam Foote described as a lower-body injury.

After the game, Höglander was spotted wearing a walking boot.

“We’ll find out tomorrow when the docs see him,” Foote told the media when asked about the injury. “Hopefully it’s not going to be too much, we’ll see.”

Höglander got hit by a Calgary Flames player in a routine-looking play during the second period. He skated off gingerly and exited the game down the tunnel.

Vitali Kravtsov replaced him on the top line alongside Filip Chytil and MacKenzie MacEachern for the rest of the game.

Höglander got off to a hot start in this contest, opening the scoring with a power-play goal. He buried home a loose puck after Tom Willander’s original shot hit the post.

The 24-year-old also showed some flashes of offensive creativity while skating alongside Chytil before his night was cut short.

Last season, Höglander got hurt in a game against the New York Rangers while the Canucks were fighting for their playoff lives. He missed six games total before returning for Vancouver’s final six games of the season.

Prior to that, Höglander hasn’t missed significant time since a groin injury forced him out of action during the 2021-22 season.
