Unless there’s a massive change of heart from the front office, it doesn’t sound as though the Vancouver Canucks have any intention of trading Filip Hronek.
Hronek, 28, was arguably the best player on a bad Canucks team this past season. The Czech blueliner scored eight goals and a career-high 49 points in 82 games.
After seeing some massive NHL trades go down in recent days, including the Chicago Blackhawks giving up the fourth-overall pick to acquire Bowen Byram, plenty of Canucks fans feel this could be the time to move on from Hronek. It doesn’t sound as though management shares that philosophy.
“He’s not going anywhere. The Vancouver Canucks plan to make Filip Hronek part of the leadership core of this team,” Frank Seravalli said to Mike Halford and Jason Brough on Sportsnet 650. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see him named captain. He’s someone that they’re going to depend on and rely on here moving forward. He’s the one guy that’s staying.”

Hronek just wrapped up the second season of an eight-year deal he signed just over two years ago. The deal carries a full no-movement clause through the 2027-28 season before then becoming a 15-team no-trade list.
Given all the turmoil in Vancouver the past two seasons, it’s a bit of a headscratcher as to why Hronek seems to be adamant on remaining with the Canucks. Regardless, it sounds like he will be returning for the 2026-27 season at minimum.
That doesn’t mean the Canucks will be quiet on the trade front, however.
Several veteran players on the Canucks roster are candidates to be moved this summer, including the likes of Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and Jake DeBrusk. Even with so many veterans potentially heading out the door, Hronek seems likely to remain a Canuck, and could wind up being named as the 16th captain in franchise history.
