New Year's Eve fireworks at Whistler Village

Are you disappointed there will not be any New Year’s Eve fireworks or celebrations in downtown Vancouver this year? Less than two hours away from the Vancouver region, Whistler Village will be British Columbia’s party central for ringing in 2015.

The celebrations throughout the plazas and pedestrian-only Village Stroll of Whistler Village begin at 6 p.m. on December 31 and go on into the early morning hours of January 1. The entire experience has been split into a ticketed and free experience, which includes a free high-aerial fireworks that begin at midnight.

All of the events have been billed as family-friendly celebrations. However, if you are looking for more adult-friendly options after the fireworks and public festivities, Whistler also has a large nightclub scene that is planning to up the ante for this special night of the year.

Please note that Whistler’s public transit system will be free on New Year’s Eve with extended hours from 6 p.m. until late.

Free events

Special NYE Fire and Ice Show at Skier’s Plaza

  • Time: 11:30 p.m. to midnight
  • Location: Skier’s Plaza, Whistler Village
  • Cost: FREE! No wristbands required.
  • Description: Whistler Village’s weekly Fire Ice and Ice Show at Skiers Plaza will be much larger than usual. Watch the resort’s best skiers and riders hit a big air jump then fly through a blazing ring of fire!

Midnight Fireworks at Skier’s Plaza

  • Time: Begins at midnight
  • Location: Skier’s Plaza, Whistler Village (base of Whistler Mountain)
  • Cost: FREE! No wristbands required.
  • Description: Kick off 2015 with a fireworks display at midnight! Approximately 5-minutes in duration.

Ticketed events

Tickets are now on sale online for Whistler’s New Year’s Eve Celebration events at three venues in Whistler Village. Wristbands are required for entry into these family-friendly events with lively entertainment, games, crafts and activities connected by the pedestrian-only Village Stroll.

Wristband prices

  • Purchases online before Dec. 31: $15 for adults and children 13 years and older; $10 for children ages 12 and under; free for children ages 2 and under. Wristbands can be picked up at the Holiday Information Kiosk besides the Whistler Conference Centre.
  • Purchases on-site on Dec. 31 at Whistler Information Centre, Millennium Place and Meadow Park Sports Centre: $20 for adults and children 13 years and older; $10 for children ages 12 and under; free for children ages 2 and under.

Wristband entry events

  • Free ice skating at Whistler Olympic Plaza: Free skating at Whistler Olympic Plaza and wristband holders can also receive free skate rentals. Open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Millennium Place Theatre: Entertainment, live music and two children’s countdowns that include a giant bubble wrap and balloon stomp. The event includes creative arts and crafts, cartoons, face painting, dress-up storytelling and surprises. Open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Indoor Play Zone at Whistler Conference Centre: A variety of exciting activities, games and entertainment for families with young children. Open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Much Music Dance Party at Whistler Conference Centre: For youth between the ages of 13 to 18. Wicked sound, killer lighting and the hottest new and old school videos. Open from 8 p.m. to midnight.
