At the 36 floors and approximately 144 metres this is by far the tallest stand alone office tower proposed for downtown Vancouver in a very long time. Where the proposed Telus Tower in Downtown Vancouver disappointed both in height and architecture merit, the tower on 1021 West Hastings (next to the awesome Marine Building) excels.
The design has been approved by the city’s Urban Design Panel (UDP) and met with great enthusiasm. Seldom does Vancouver see designs of this calibre. I also love how it integrates with the existing two office towers. The project is also going to be LEED platinum.
The developer of the building is Oxford, one of this country’s premier office developers. The architect firm for this project is Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership Here are two more renders of the building.
This project is just one of many new office tower projects coming to downtown Vancouver. The location will definitely add more daytime foot traffic to part of town as well. Construction will commence once the demand is there. My best guess would be 6 months to a year. Fingers crossed that this get built soon and doesn’t suffer the same fate as the Ritz-Carlton.
