Former VPD Chief Jim Chu among new TransLink board of directors

Several new board members have been named to the TransLink board in a press conference held by the provincial government in Kelowna earlier today.

Peter Fassbender, the B.C. cabinet minister responsible for TransLink and the Community, Sport and Cultural Development portfolio, announced former Vancouver Police Department Jim Chu and former City of Surrey manager Murray Dinwoodie as new members of the board.

In addition, former CEO of Westminster Savings Credit Union Barry Forbes has been appointed as the board’s chair. He is currently the director of E-Comm 911 and has had prior experience with the Fraser Health Authority, Mercado Capital Corporation, Co-operative Trust Company, Credit Union Central of B.C., Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation and Pacific Network Services.

“Mr. Chu and Mr. Dinwoodie have extensive experience, not only at the civic level but at the regional, provincial and national levels as well,” reads a statement by Fassbender. “I am confident their contributions will be invaluable to the board as TransLink works to secure the confidence of the region’s taxpayers, both in relation to its fiscal management and its delivery of the transportation systems so important to the region.”

In the meantime, the board also made public that the recruitment process to hire a new TransLink CEO will be temporarily halted.

“We will resume the recruitment once the new board members have had time to get up to speed,” said Forbes.
