Bellingham is getting a new Trader Joe's with a huge parking lot

Rejoice, BC residents! Bellingham is getting a brand new Trader Joe’s soon, and it seems like the parking situation will be vastly improved compared to the James Street location.

A spokesperson for Trader Joe’s confirmed the location with Daily Hive after some rumours about it were circulating on a Bellingham Facebook group.

The new location will take the spot of a former Bed Bath & Beyond store at 4255 Meridian Street, so there will be a sizeable parking lot. While we couldn’t pinpoint an exact date, a spokesperson told Daily Hive the current plans are for it to open next year. Rumours suggest early 2025, but we cannot confirm that timeframe yet.

Based on a quick Google Maps search, the new location will be just a couple of minutes further from Vancouver than the James Street one. If you’ve visited the James Street location, you’ve likely run into issues with parking congestion, which seems like a non-issue at the new location.

If you’ve been out of the loop, Trader Joe’s is an excessively popular grocery chain for border-crossing BC residents. It’s easy to find deals but also products that are hard to come by locally.

That has also rubbed some Bellingham residents the wrong way, who have claimed that Canadians hoard products and goods and complained about how Canadians behave and drive.

Nonetheless, there will soon be two locations to spread the love. What are your favourite treats and goodies to bring back from Trader Joe’s? Let us know in the comments.
