Surrey City Hall had its grand opening during the weekend, showcasing the legacy of Mayor Dianne Watts’ and her ambition to turn Whalley into downtown Surrey – a hub for business, investment, culture and social activity.

The $97 million, 180,000 square foot, LEED Gold certified building was jointly designed by Kasian Design & Moriyama Teshima and has been open for business for nearly two months.

The new City Hall amenities for the community include:

  • Improved service delivery, streamlining four previously separate service areas into one-stop counter services
  • City Hall Plaza as a gathering/celebration venue and urban park space
  • A Council Chambers room that doubles as a theatre/performing arts venue
  • Meeting rooms
  • Public Daycare
  • Public Art

The new City Hall is adjacent to the recently opened library and a large plaza that will host year-round events like ‘Party for the Planet’. There will also be a 160 metre tall building that will offer office space, market residential units, and Surrey’s first international renowned hotel chain: the Autograph Collection by Marriott International.

Here are photos from Party for the Planet at the new Surrey City Hall where 20,000 visitors enjoyed many family-friendly activities, and many were heard describing City Hall as “gorgeous” and “stunning”:
