As the cherry blossoms begin to flourish throughout the city it seems, finally, we’ve made it through the dreary Canadian winter.
Between this and the fact BC Liquor Stores has announced the launch of over 80 new cooler and hard seltzer flavours this month, we’re feeling pretty good about how the spring and summer are taking shape.
If you’re as excited as we are about all the new ready-to-drink beverages hitting the shelves but aren’t quite sure which ones to sample first, we’ve narrowed them down and categorized them based on personality type. So, all you need to do is chill, crack one open, and sip, sip, sip.
Personality type: You spent last summer sipping White Claws on your balcony after they (finally) launched in Canada — but are looking to switch things up.
Flavour profile: White Claw drinkers will find the usual subtle, natural fruit flavours they know and love in a brand new watermelon flavour as refreshing as a juicy slice on a hot, sunny day. To boot, all White Claws are made from just seltzer water, gluten-free spirit base, and have only 100 calories per can.
Personality type: You’re looking to update your roster of spring and summer drinks for game nights.
Flavour profile: There are so many things to love about Nütrl’s new Black Raspberry flavour — it contains no sugar, sweeteners, preservatives, or sodium. It also boasts a 7% ABV and only 135 calories.
Personality type: You’re a health-conscious yogi who likes to let loose on the weekends.
Flavour profile: Nude’s new locally crafted, vegan-friendly seltzer packs such juicy, refreshing flavours into its new grapefruit tequila soda it’s hard to believe they only contain 100 calories per can. The BC-based brand’s lineup of vodka soda seltzers quickly ascended the ranks of our favourites last summer, now we can’t wait for this season’s tequila-twist versions.
Personality type: You’re feeling nostalgic for those childhood, soda pop days.
Flavour profile: Sip on sweet nostalgia (but without all the sugar) in this mixer pack featuring Cola, Root Beer, and Cream Soda flavours. Its classic soft drink flavours will have you reminiscing in no time — though the cans actually don’t contain any sugar or carbs, and only contain 90 calories.
Personality type: You’re a beer-lover who wants the best of both worlds.
Flavour profile: Coming in at 80 calories, one gram of sugar, and 4% ABV, this is an easy-drinking hard seltzer with a hint of delicious strawberry flavour for a super crisp and refreshing finish.
Personality type: You’re a habitual beer-drinker who has always been curious (but hesitant) about reaching for fruity seltzers.
Flavour profile: With its ripe mango flavours and sparkling effervescence, this light and bright Coors hard seltzer is the definition of fresh — ringing in at only 90 calories and 4.5% ABV per can.
Personality type: You’re a hipster who likes to get the best bang for their buck.
Flavour profile: Clocking in at 6.9% ABV, 130 calories, and three grams of sugar per can, Pabst’s new vodka soda drink is sporting a bold raspberry taste that’s as flavourful as it is refreshing — with just the right amount of sweetness.
Personality type: You’re a weekend warrior who’s always rallying friends for Sunday brunch.
Flavour profile: Seasoned with hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and sustainably sourced clam juice from the North Atlantic. This premium (and proudly Canadian) vodka-based Caesar is bold, balanced, and made for easy sipping.
Personality type: You’re an OG hard seltzer-drinker who wants to be transported back to a simpler time.
Flavour profile: Mike’s famous hard lemonade — one of the first brands to pioneer the hard seltzer movement — is back with a new, juicy red summer berry flavour that strikes the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The pink flavour comes from seasonal red berries, like strawberries and raspberries.
Personality type: You’d choose gin over vodka any day of the week.
Flavour profile: This perfectly mixed gin and tonic was made for classic cocktail-lovers and golden hour sippers. It has bright and zesty notes of juniper, coriander, and citrus that are balanced out by the light, bittersweet flavour of tonic.
Personality type: You’d rather be vacationing in Italy this summer (so, basically, everyone).
Flavour profile: There’s nothing like an aperol spritz on a warm day to fuel your Euro-trip fantasies. This perfectly pre-mixed aperitivo is made with sparkling wine and an infusion of burnt orange, tangerine peel, herbs, and roots. Just pour this baby over ice in a wine glass, garnish with an orange slice, and you’re set for spring.
Personality type: You’re a nature-lover with a soft spot for apple juice.
Flavour profile: Proudly made in British Columbia, this crisp, clean cider is loaded with the sweet — yet wild — taste of Saskatoon berries. Take one along on your next hiking or paddling adventure as a small, energy-boosting indulgence.
