Partial stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge closure to last all weekend long

If you’re planning on heading into New West over the weekend, you’ll need to plan for an alternate route thanks to a closure of the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview/the new Pattullo) Bridge that’ll last all weekend long.
According to Fraser Crossing Constructors (FCGP), the closure will begin on Friday, May 22, at 9 p.m. and will last until Monday, May 25, at 5 a.m.
The southbound lanes of the bridge will be maintained, and FCGP says that drivers who are travelling northbound are encouraged to take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser Bridge instead.
According to FCGP, the reason for the closure is that bridge crews are going to be installing a span of the multi-use path overpass structure that’s adjacent to the bridge connector.
Since the bridge opened, there have been a few weekend closures. Between April 24 and 27, a weekend closure was in place for the entire bridge as crews conducted some paving work on the bridge deck.
For transit riders, particularly Northbound N19 NightBus riders, trips will be routed over the Queensborough and Alex Fraser bridges.
“All traffic pattern changes will be well signed, and traffic control personnel will be on site to assist as required. Access for emergency responders will be maintained,” FCGP said.
Construction work will take place around the clock, all day, and FCGP warns that some residents may experience longer than normal travel times, and nearby residents could hear some noise related to the construction activities.
Looking ahead, there’s going to be another full closure at the end of the month.
According to FCGP, the closure will begin on May 29 and last until June 1. The closure will impact the bridge in both directions so crews can complete the installation of the multi-use path overpass superstructure over the bridge connector and Royal Avenue on-ramp.
More information on the full stal̕əw̓asəm bridge closure at the end of the month will be shared at a different date.
