A beloved Hollywood couple could provide the quiet surf town of Tofino with a major tourism boost.
Neil Patrick Harris and husband David Burtka spent the first weekend of April on the West Coast of Vancouver Island celebrating their 12th anniversary together, which began in 2004. The couple announced their engagement in 2011 shortly after the approval of the Marriage Equality Act in New York and had their wedding in Italy in 2014.
The vacation came just before Harris was scheduled to begin filming Netflix’s 13-episode adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events in a studio in South Vancouver.
Based on the photos, captions, and in-video commentary, Harris has clearly fallen in love with B.C. – this was the perfect destination to celebrate their anniversary.
“I’m not sure if I’ve ever taken this many photos and videos of any place in my entire life,” said Harris while walking along the beach in a video. “It’s so beautiful here. Canada rocks.”
Harris, 42, is best known for his title role in Doogie Howser, M.D. and more recently as Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother. He has also starred in a number of films, most notably in Gone Girl, The Smurfs 1 & 2, and as himself in the Harold & Kumar series.
He and Burtka, who is also an actor, are the parents of two 2010-born twins from a surrogate mother.
Over three million people around the world follow Harris on his Instagram account, and another 169,000 follow Burtka.
The couple watched the waves, enjoyed the seaside hot springs, walked on trails through the forest, tasted craft beer at Tofino Brew, had dinner at the Wolf in the Fog, and ate brunch at Wickaninnish Inn.
Here are some of the Instagram photos the couple posted during their trip:
