It’s hard to fathom just how much support the Toronto Blue Jays had throughout Canada on their epic World Series run.
Streets across the country were filled with fans donning Blue Jays apparel. It was the topic of conversation at restaurants and bars from coast to coast.
The anticipation was valid, as this marked the first time the Jays advanced to the World Series since 1993. They came as close as possible to picking up their third championship, before falling to the LA Dodgers in an epic series that went the distance.
Given the Blue Jays overcame the odds so often this season, many believed they were a team of destiny. When they flew back to Toronto with a 3-2 series lead, many expected the Commissioner’s Trophy would be theirs.
The Blue Jays wound up dropping Game 6, making way for an even more highly anticipated Game 7. It was so anticipated, in fact, that it wound up breaking TV records in Canada.
An average audience of 10.9 million viewers tuned into Game 7 of the World Series on Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, and Citytv, making it the most-watched Rogers broadcast of all time. It is the most-watched English-language broadcast on record in Canada aside from the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
Remarkably, 18.5 million viewers watched some or all of Game 7 in Canada, making up 45 per cent of the country’s population. While Game 7 had the highest average audience, there were a ton of Canadians following closely throughout the entirety of the World Series.
This was the average audience for each game:
- Game 1 ā 7 million
- Game 2 ā 6.6 million
- Game 3 ā 5.8 million
- Game 4 ā 6.2 million
- Game 5 ā 7.2 million
- Game 6 ā 9.4 million
- Game 7 ā 10.9 million
Though it didn’t end the way Canadians had hoped, this Blue Jays run helped attract an even larger fan base, which builds plenty of excitement for the 2026 season and beyond.
