Nature-lovers, this one’s for you: Nat Geo Live is coming to Vancouver (CONTEST)

Feb 9 2019, 6:22 am

Not everyone can say that their routine from day-to-day includes diving to the depths of the ocean to capture marine creatures in their natural habitat, getting up close with some of the world’s largest jungle cats, or being a commander at a Space Station in outer space.

But you can hear first-hand what it’s like from National Geographic explorers who have done all of that and more.

National Geographic Live!, the first series of its kind to be presented by Vancouver Civic Theatres, gives you the opportunity to listen to behind-the-scenes stories and experiences from triumphant explorers. Taking place at the Orpheum between February and May, the series is bringing in three explorers with drastically different, but equally breathtaking experiences.

On February 27, go on an adventure from Asian jungles to Latin American rainforests with award-winning wildlife photographer Steve Winter, in his talk “On the Trail of Big Cats“.

A National Geographic photographer since 1991, Winter has sold out venues sharing his stories of travelling the world to photograph cats and educate audiences on the importance of conservation.

On March 12, leading underwater photographer Brian Skerry will be taking the audience on an underwater adventure in his talk “Ocean Soul“.

An advocate for marine conservation, Skerry’s presentations showcase his award-winning and thrilling wildlife encounters. Skerry will recount diving in predator-infested waters and living at the bottom of the sea to get close to his subjects, in his adventures.

The series will end on May 7 with celebrated NASA astronaut and National Geographic author Terry Virts, who will share his stories and photographs from space in “View from Above“. Virts spent 200 consecutive days in space as commander of the International Space Station in one of the longest continuous space missions of any NASA astronaut.

You won’t want to miss the opportunity to hear the speakers tell their stories alongside stunning imagery and gripping footage in this unique educational series. But make sure you act soon because tickets are selling out fast.

Whether you’re a massive fan of National Geographic documentaries, or curious about the world around you, you’ll be sure to enjoy this exciting educational speaker series — it makes for a perfect family-friendly gift, too. And if there’s something you feel needs further clarification, you can ask the scientists during the Q&A session at the end of each presentation.
