Those who have missed the unparalleled taste of Nando’s chicken will be pleased to know the franchise’s North Vancouver location has re-opened. The fast casual food purveyor has resumed dine-in, takeout, and catering services.
Locals can expect to order all of their usual favourites, like the 1/2 Chicken and PERi-Fries, Caesar Salad, Chicken Sandwich, and — of course — the crowd-pleasing PERi PERi sauce. The enduring secret behind Nando’s chicken includes 24 hours of marinating, followed by a flame grill and a douse of the signature sauce.
“All our sauces are made in South Africa. It’s so tasty that you can’t imagine ever eating chicken without it,” says restaurant franchise owner Sonny Mahal.
The restaurant franchise, which originated in South Africa, opened the doors of its freshly redesigned location just a year and a half ago. Nestled in the heart of Lonsdale, its previous location had been part of the North Vancouver community since opening in 1995.
Like all Nando’s locations, the restaurant has its own unique design and style — one that local residents have become familiar with since the redesign. “Our food, atmosphere, and style of service is what keeps guests loyal,” says Mahal.
Though many are familiar with the location, not many are aware of its heartwarming origin story. Blown away by his first Nando’s experience at the Kerrisdale location after having lunch with his cousin, Mahal “fell in love immediately with the ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant.”
From that point on, he became intent on becoming a franchise owner. Shortly after, he was “blown away” to be presented with the opportunity to own the very location where he had his first experience. After much hard work and persistence, Mahal was able to take on his second spot in re-opening the North Vancouver location.
To this day, he remains committed to bringing Nando’s singular flavours to the local community. When pressed for his favourite order, he says “my favourite meal would be 1/2 chicken mango and lime cut in four with a side of coleslaw and rice.”
In light of recent events, the restaurant is taking all precautionary COVID measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of guests. This includes strict and heightened hand washing, protective gloves and masks for all staff, frequent sanitization of all high-traffic touchpoints, and wellness checks for all staff at the beginning and end of every shift.
Social distancing measures will also remain in effect as the restaurant operates at 50% capacity to ensure plenty of space for diners and guests.
Those looking to enjoy Nando’s signature PERi PERi flavours from the comfort home have the ability to do so using the usual avenues on SkipTheDishes, Uber Eats, and DoorDash. Patrons can also place pick up and catering orders directly via the Nando’s website.
