Naked yoga grows in B.C.

It’s not just for Kim and Kanye anymore. Naked yoga might be the newest – and weirdest – yoga craze to hit British Columbia.

For those willing to bare it all for stretchy muscles, practicing yoga in the nude isn’t something you have to do at home, because naked yoga classes are popping up around B.C. A Kelowna yoga teacher, Suzie Doratti, has started offering workshops for women out of the Okanagan Yoga Centre aimed at using naked yoga as a way to promote self-love and acceptance.

In a dim, mirror-less room lit by candle lights, women practice the art of yoga fully nude. But the trend doesn’t stop there, and in other locations, it takes on a sexual nature.

Naked yoga for men has been around in Vancouver and Victoria for some time. Skyclad Yoga in Victoria offers yoga and message workshops, retreats and classes where women and men can strip down to explore their body’s sexuality. Similarly, Nude Dude Yoga in Vancouver offers a tantric workshop out of their Haro and Denman St. location.

Armed with a towel, yoga mat, water bottle and nothing else, naked yoga buffs drop their ego at the door to enjoy the exercise in its most natural form.

Let’s just hope they don’t put lululemon out of business.
