My Vancouver 2016: YVR's Craig Richmond

Dec 20 2017, 3:23 am

Welcome to My Vancouver 2016, a curation of local industry experts, community and thought leaders, each telling us their resolutions for Vancouver in 2016. Since 2008, we’ve been bringing you a bucket list of things to do around the city while also keeping you informed with the many issues in our community. Now, we’re focusing on what’s next: the evolution of our city into something greater, starting with 2016.

What do you do?

I am the President & CEO of YVR, the Best Airport in North America.

When did you come to Vancouver?

I was born in Vancouver but raised in Kamloops, so I’m a B.C. boy through and through.

What do you love most about Vancouver?

We live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I love that we are able to be the gateway to the rest of the country. Our location makes us the first point of entry for many visitors to Canada and I’m proud that as Vancouverites we are able to welcome so many travellers and people from all over the world and help them enjoy all that the city, and all that Canada has to offer.

If you could make one New Year’s resolution for your industry in Vancouver for 2016, what would it be?

Our New Year’s resolution is to raise the bar once again and welcome 21 million passengers through YVR in 2016. We hit 20 million for 2015, and we have been quite vocal about our audacious goal of reaching 25 million by 2020. Hopefully we can bring home our seventh straight Skytrax award for Best Airport in North America, keep on adding new airlines serving more destinations, and subsequently create more jobs and help inject millions in to the local economy.
