Music matters: Canada to celebrate Music Therapy throughout March

Feb 22 2018, 2:06 am

Music has the power to bring about so much good, on a level even greater than singing along to your favourite Beyonce songs while you’re in the shower.

You may or may not know about music therapy: It’s the use of skillful music by an accredited music therapist to provide stress relief to mental, emotional, and behavioral problems. And it’s also been shown to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Yep, it has some pretty awesome benefits!

This month is Music Therapy Awareness Month in Canada, and charitable foundation Music Heals is spearheading many of the campaigns throughout this month.

On Thursday, March 1 the foundation will be launching and leading the first-ever World Music Therapy Day. As part of this, BC Place will be lighting up red from sunset to sunrise. If you’re in the area make sure to take a snap at tag @musicheals_ca on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter.

And on Saturday, March 3 #NightOut4MH a ‘Night Out for Music Heals’, will be taking place. More than 100 bars and nightclubs across Canada will be coming together to raise funds for music therapy in their province.

No matter where you are in Canada or the world, there’s a way that you can show your support for Music Heals. Visit the foundation online to find out more.
