10 MPs who lost big time in Monday's federal election
The face of Canada’s leadership has undergone a big change after Monday’s election when Justin Trudeau’s Liberals came out on top with a majority government. We break down who some of the biggest losers of the night were, including cabinet ministers and high profile MPs.
Chris Alexander – Ajax, Ontario

The former Citizenship and Immigration Minister won the Ajax-Pickering riding in 2011, before redistribution created the riding of Ajax. Alexander faced much criticism after the Harper Government’s handling of the Syrian refugee crisis.
Unseated by: Liberal Mark Holland (who was unseated by Alexander in 2011)
John Duncan – Courtenay-Alberni, British Columbia

In public service for over two decades, John Duncan’s time in the federal government came to an end. The veteran MP spent time majority of his time as MP for Vancouver Island North and served in cabinet as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development from 2010 to 2013 before taking on the portfolio of Minister of State in 2013.

Julian Fantino – Vaughan-Woodbridge, Ontario

The former Veterans Affairs Minister faced much criticism after closing numerous Veterans Affairs offices across the country and showing up late for a meeting with veterans (and getting into an argument with them).

Kerry-Lynne Findlay – Delta, British Columbia
As the National Revenue Minister, Findlay was regarded as the highest ranked Conservative MP in B.C. after James Moore declared he wasn’t running in the 2015 election.
Unseated by: Liberal Carla Qualtrough
Greg Rickford – Kenora, Ontario

Rickford served as the Natural Resources Minister.
Unseated by: Liberal Bob Nault (former cabinet minister in the Chrétien government) – Rickford came third in this year’s election
Joe Oliver – Eglinton-Lawrence, Ontario

The Finance Minister won the Eglinton-Lawrence riding in 2011, turning it blue for the first time since creation in 1979.

Leona Aglukkaq – Nunavut

The NDP’s deputy leader was running in an NDP stronghold, which shows the impact Trudeau’s Liberals had across the country, especially in the clean sweep of Atlantic provinces.

Olivia Chow – Spadina-Fort York, Ontario

The former Toronto MP, and wife of the late Jack Layton, stepped down from federal politics to try her hand at a Toronto mayoral bid in 2014 before returning to run in this election.

Paul Dewar – Ottawa Centre, Ontario
