Mountainside café opportunity looks for retailer to take the spot

Apr 13 2021, 3:06 pm

Have you ever dreamed of opening a first-of-its-kind café in a beautiful mountain neighbourhood? Well, this could be your chance to manifest that vision.

The City of Coquitlam’s Burke Mountain Discovery Centre is now under construction, and it includes the neighbourhood’s first-ever café.

With exposure from main thoroughfares, the café will act as a gateway into the future Burke Mountain Village. With sweeping views over the Fraser Valley and Pitt River and connections to area paths and trails, it will be the perfect spot for locals and visitors alike to pass through for a coffee fix.

Slated to open in early fall, the city is currently in search of a coffee purveyor that can bring their expertise to the inspiring new space. If you’re a seasoned café owner, this could be a great opportunity to expand your current operations — and the location could not be more ideal.

There is currently an open Request for Proposals (RFP) to find the right café operator to take on the lease. Anyone interested in pursuing the opportunity is encouraged to submit a proposal detailing their vision for the space.

The news is equally exciting for locals who will have a much-needed social hangout spot and coffee retailer. By design, the space is sure to quickly transform into a neighbourhood gathering place.

In addition to the café (1,740 sq ft), the Discovery Centre (1,556 sq ft) will feature a presentation area, meeting, and programming space, as well as a large, 1,685 sq ft patio.

The café’s location as part of the Discovery Centre means it will be an important site for the transfer of knowledge and for locals looking to gain insights on future happenings within the community, especially surrounding that of Burke Village.

The growing community of Burke Mountain is currently home to about 15,000 people — a number that is expected to reach 50,000 when fully built out.

The Discovery Centre and café will be built just down the street from the future Burke Mountain Village, which is primed to be the social and commercial heart of the Burke Mountain community.

The Village will eventually be home to an enormous public plaza, equipped with 120,000 sq ft of retail, including shops, restaurants, and over 2,000 residential units which will be anchored by the Northeast Community Centre

The future apartments and townhomes will also provide new residents with easy access to trails, parks, schools, and transit, including SkyTrain and commuter rail within a short drive.

Without a doubt, the new café will become a hallmark of the flourishing community and an important spot to congregate, learn, and indulge in an assortment of coffee shop staples.
