Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) has opened a 800 square foot outpost location at the recently renovated UBC Bookstore on campus.
The Outpost will include clothing for cycling, running, hiking, lifestyle and yoga. The products will sell at regular MEC prices. The UBC bookstore will receive a portion of the monthly sales.
MEC at the UBC Bookstore is a return to their birthplace. The first discussions and initial operation of MEC happened among members of the Varsity Outdoor Club in the early 1970s.
This small outpost doesn’t provide all the services of a regular MEC store, for example only products purchased through the UBC Bookstore are returnable there and they require a UBC-bookstore receipt. This location doesn’t offer store pick-up or ship-from-store services.
